Enterprise knowledge quality determines agent quality

Why ownership, access, provenance, freshness and correction matter more than document ingestion.

Enterprise knowledge sources governed through provenance, access and quality controls

Decision lens

Can an agent reliably find, use and cite the knowledge required for material work?

Retrieval technology does not resolve conflicting sources, uncertain authority, stale content or inappropriate access. Reliable agent behaviour depends on an operated knowledge service.

Establish source authority

Identify which repositories are authoritative for each purpose, who owns them and how conflicts or superseded content are resolved.

  • Record source purpose
  • Name accountable owners
  • Preserve provenance

Enforce access at retrieval time

Apply identity, role, purpose, sensitivity and residency consistently. An agent must not retrieve information merely because a connector can reach it.

  • Test representative roles
  • Filter before generation
  • Audit sensitive retrieval

Operate freshness and correction

Measure retrieval and answer quality, monitor source freshness, capture failures and route correction to accountable content owners.

  • Set freshness expectations
  • Create a correction workflow
  • Review high-impact failures

Perspective boundary

A knowledge service is not a single source of truth unless source governance and reconciliation genuinely support that designation.
